Finally as an artist I feel Ikohaus has moved to a new era in art as a social media, medium to create works of avant-garde art. From the article, “The alchemy of the avant-garde, we find – “The political philosopher Henri de Saint-Simon (1760-1825) originally coined “avant-garde” as a rallying cry for art of the early 19th century to be a medium of social reform.” [from a special to The Japan Times by John L Tran Nov 29, 2016]

{“The first occurrence of the concept of “Avant-garde” in the sense that it is used today is associated with the work of a major social and economical philosopher from the beginning of the nineteenth century, Claude Henri de Saint-Simon who wrote, in his 1825 book Opinions Littéraires, philosophiques et industrielles : “We, the artists, will be the vanguard of the intellectual revolution. The power of art is in fact the most effective and the fastest. We have all sorts of weapons: when we want to propose new ideas, we engrave them in marble or we draw them on a canvas.” The idea of art at the forefront of the intellectual revolution is still very much present in the midnineteenth century, again associated with the idea of a revolution, and all French revolutions begin in Paris. At the end of the nineteenth century the value of the term changes and is then associated with specific artistic groups that are considered at the forefront of the esthetic exploration and break the accepted artistic routine.”} [Quote from Avant-garde by Henri de Saint-Simon http://www.ieeff.org/becomingpoetics.pdf]

With that fact in mind, given my experience growing up in the art world of NYC from the early 50’s through the year 2005, I witnessed the civil and social rights movement as affected by the likes of Pollack, Picasso, Warhol and Rauschenberg as the 21st Century dawned. I believed what was inherently wrong with the social reform artists, was their aloofness from the society they were depicting. I have told the story in past articles of how I walked out with my work from an early 70’s NYC Soho gallery because the owner refused to pay for my work outright as he would have for a Picasso and only offered consignment. How is an artist to survive on, If You Work Sells? For the record, Pratt Institute, the art university I attended from 1970 thru 1983 was not better. I was told and personally called into the Deans office upon arriving at the school, to be informed that demonstrations on a nature of Peace or Civil Rights would not be allowed, Africa was left out from Art History except for short references to Picasso and the Cubists deriving some influence from the region, along with early computers and AutoDesk being off limits to the school of art.

Uggghhh, what a stifling atmosphere for creatives. So for a period of 10 years, from the 80’s to the early 90’s I removed myself from the creative world of music and the arts, and just observed, searching for a new direction. Finally in 1991 under the inspiration of then tech savvy President Clinton, I discerned that Telecommunications would be a groundbreaking medium of the upcoming 21st Century.

On to what we have coming up this Friday Dec 9th 2016. First of all we have been talking with the Rap artist Werd SOS (Sons Of Scotland), bcx-werd_ft_draftwhom I have had an amazing relationship with for some many years, probably 5 or more. I have strived to get a live video feed from out of Scotland, but with many early technical limitations of 4G or high speed internet availability it has been most difficult and never materialized. Enter Werd SOS fan David Magowan who has volunteered to check the local Scottish Venue for WiFi or 4G availability.

Once we can find the results of this test we will know further if that event can be produced live or not. More into the collaboration we are putting forward, after much experimentation with various platforms, Google Hangouts On Air, Facebook Live, Smiletime etc we have come to settle on Stagehound a company from out of Silicon Valley, whom we have a great personal relationship with. The founder Craig Stanford and lead developer Matt Coalson have a great fundamentally sound concept of utilizing the WebRTC format in a multi screen fashion along with superior audio initially designed in from the outset by Matt as Craig described to me in a recent conversation. What is really cool is the fact that although I studied telecommunications, and worked in the early Microwave experimental 2GigHz band with AT&T, the Stagehound execs can relate to my artist persona as well as my more technical side.

Finally in this sort of coming out Launch Party for Social Responsibility in social media, another old CEO/Founder buddy Saul Fleischman of RiteTag. Now this platform Stagehound has no replay, record or archive capabilities so the immediacy of the medium is similar to what I love about digital art. More importantly Saul and I have talked in length about what the new abilities are of RiteTag’s Rite Forge, Rite Push and Rite.ly.

This will be an open chance for people to engage with creators, collaborate and contribute to a work that transcends borders. What we are looking to effect is a new awareness of societies connectedness. No one tends to retool society, most corporations just keep pushing the same old product line with must buy, advertising and promotion to create a need for adoption. So other creative types just cannot compete unless they have a really big patron or war chest. I myself have the same difficulty. A lot of my work goes with out patrons, viewers or support. So why create and just have the works collecting around the studio or sitting on various media platforms?

That is why what we are pushing for is a new valuation of creativity from a non-product, brand point of view. True works of art or artists are not produced by teams of brand developers and writers, they are created from the minds of creatives that may have a completely different orientation of their perspective in the creative process. We have machines that do almost everything in factories and apps so society needs to discover a whole new shift in paradigm and elevate the valuation system past the product model to one that provides true enlightened value. This is what our experience streams will attempt.

PostScript – Probably most people will not read this, but working with a real experimental artist one can expect dynamic shifts in direction and what I am finding out is that most people will not support watching a livestream that feel is not of great significance and value, so the work will be done and no viewers would attend. We will attempt to experiment with some streams at times but continue to focus more on the visual arts and the DRTYBSMNT channel already on our subdomain. We welcome any comments that you may have below this article.

Cheers
