Ashley “A-Luv” Doe is a musician that you may not know about. But then that’s what we do at !kohaus Music Group Blog: Inform, Educate and Problem Solve”. “A-Luv” as he affectionately likes to be known is a bass player extraordinaire, in the style of Stanley Clarke. A-Luv plays what we would call, lead bass on a 6-string bass instrument usually over an accompanying true bass.
Where did this solo, string popping kind of style come from? Having been a bass player my self since 1964 I would like to credit Larry Graham of the original Sly and The Family Stone fame and later Graham Central Station. Larry Graham credits his style of Bass playing as coming from the Church out of the necessity of having to fill in the sound from lack of having a drummer. Later on Stanley Clarke would embellish on this style and really propel it into the forefront of modern music.
